Healing is equally effective at a longer distance as it is when a healer is present and touching the horse. Touch is energy and it can move beyond the physical.

Each of us knows this for we have all shared the experience of being touched by another person's supportive words or by the rumbling nicker of a familiar horse. We have all felt our hearts opened by the news of hope for a difficult situation in a foreign country or through witnessing an act of kindness to an animal or person in need. We have all become deeply touched, breathless and awe inspired upon a vision of great natural beauty; such as a horse freely expressing powerful movements unified with grace.

Scientific experimentation has also revealed this miraculous truth, discovering that even a single thought influences and transforms the outcome of an event. Physical Science states that this happens outside of the time-space continuum. As our human understanding of reality expands, so do our opportunities to heal.

Acute illnesses can respond very rapidly to healing energy. An American Quarter Horse that I had previously worked with had an acute laminitis attack. He had been lying down all day when his owner called me. He had bounding pulses in all four feet. Fifteen minutes after the long-distance healing he stood up and the pulses in all of his feet had returned to normal.

Energy healing is effective on many levels. By restructuring the energetic template of an area of the body, healing can help an injury heal more quickly. The wounds from surgery, such as castration, can heal in about half the usual time and healing can clear the emotional trauma created from the procedure as well. 

Even old injuries can improve. For instance a Warmblood who had a leg injury when she was a foal became head-bobbing lame on that leg. She came to a nearly sound condition after one healing.

Some horses, unfortunately, have had debilitating injuries that do not have such miraculous responses to healing, but they can improve none the less. In addition to an improvement in their disposition and an improved sense of well-being, even very lame horses will stand more squarely and move with more fluidity as a result.

Healing allows for chronic tension in soft tissue to release. This allows the structural alignment of the horse to improve; the bones and the articulation of the joints are able to move towards or into or their optimum relationships. Then what had appeared to be a conformational flaw, such as a horse not lifting through the chest or not standing underneath itself properly, can change.

During healings the body releases deeply and this allows misaligned vertebra to move back into place. An old gelding had chronic arthritis in his hind limbs. As a result of his compensation for his condition he had developed a curvature in his lumbar spine. I worked with this horse once a month for an extended period of time and the curvature virtually disappeared. The natural hoof trimmer, who had trimmed this horse for two years, saw him after a two year absence and exclaimed, "That horse looks ten years younger than he looked four years ago!"

Healing addresses the mind and spirit, so the attitude and disposition of horses improve as a result. Sometimes a problematic behavior is the main focus of a healing, and after the session marked changes can occur.

A client purchased a new pony that kicked out whenever the owner touched either of her hind legs. During the healing session it became clear that the pony mare experienced actual life-threatening fear in response to having her hind legs handled. Afterward the owner was able to pick up and clean the mare's hooves without any fear response.

A Thoroughbred mare lacked confidence and was resistant to much of her owner's direction. During a healing session she literally walked away, refusing to participate. I followed her out of the barn and then spoke to her lovingly and explicitly. I encouraged her to take personal responsibility for her old pattern of mistrusting humans. I made it clear to her what a terrific situation she was in and helped her make a distinction between the present and her past experiences. This mare then shifted her perception of her present reality; she chose to appreciate her caregiver and to put effort into her half of their relationship. As a result she began a positive partnership with her owner and they now eagerly face new challenges together.

Energy healing helps to clear, open and balance the energetic and physical bodies of the horse. This opening up of the energy and physical channels creates immediate improvement in the horse. This increase in the flow of energy in the horse's body strengthens their life force and allows for the body to continue healing itself over time.

The increase in the flow of energy as a result of a healing sometimes creates detoxification symptoms for a few days afterwards. Most notably, from my experience, this happens with horses that have had a history on the track. The release of toxins can be a positive movement towards strengthening the overall health of these horses. It usually is followed by an improvement in their disposition; after the toxins are released the horses become more relaxed and confident.

I had a case where an off the track horse was on an herbal mix to assist him in detoxification. This horse had open sores all over his legs. It was apparent to me that the sores were one of the symptoms that the horse's organs were sluggish and his elimination system overloaded. The energy healing facilitated movement through his organs and the release of the toxins. The morning after the healing all the open sores on his legs were gone
